I got appalling stage fright the last time I went on stage…and I had to open with a two-page monologue and I locked myself in the toilet…I wasn’t planning to stay there. I just thought “take a deep breath and think of your first line” and I couldn’t. Then I thought I needed some air…so I went out through the fire door, which closed behind me and it’s now about five minutes before curtains up…so I had to go around the front through the audience, the very people I was terrified of.
